Obituary for Gerald Don Horton

Gerald Don Horton was born on July 19, 1945 to Sybil and Vernie Horton in Greenville, Texas. He went home to be with the Lord on June 12, 2022. He graduated from Kimball High School and earned his living as a roofer and carpenter. Gerald married his wife Carol on April 16, 1964. The couple enjoyed 48 years together, three daughters, eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Gerald was an excellent husband, father, and grandfather. He fiercely loved his family.

A Godfearing, hardworking, reserved man, Gerald loved horses, playing the guitar, and singing. He also enjoyed watching old westerns. Lonesome Dove was his favorite. He especially enjoyed listening to the music of Waylon Jennings, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard and other of that time period. Gerald loved to be at home, spending time with his family. Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas was a special time in their home.

Gerald was a resilient man. He nearly died in 2006 from candida of the body. When the doctors could not find what was wrong, the lord guided his daughter Kimberly to help cure her father. Nine years ago, he experienced a stroke, leaving him paralyzed yet he always kept up good spirits and unwavering faith.

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Carol Horton; parents Vernie and Sybil Horton; and his brother Gene Horton.

Gerald is survived by his children Tonya O’Bannon, Kim Triplett, Shannon O’Hara; grandchildren Shelby Triplett-Zaler, Ryan Triplett, Justin Triplett, Joshua O’Bannon, Michael O’Bannon, Ashley Norberg, Michaela O’Hara and Carrie O’Hara; great grandchildren Harlee Triplett, Ava Triplett, Angel O’Bannon, Kenzie O’Bannon, Sophia O'Bannon, Kayla Dellenges and Elaina O’Bannon; sister Katherine Roberts and brother Bill Horton.

Visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, June 21, 2022 at 10AM at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Texas.

Funeral services will follow visitation on Tuesday, June 21, 2022, also at Cornerstone Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Texas.
