Obituary for Donald Wayne "Donnie" Williams

Donald “Donnie” Wayne Williams, affectionately known as “Pop” to so many who loved him, passed away Saturday, February 18, 2023. A private gathering at home will be held to celebrate his life and love.

Donnie was born September 27, 1949, in Hillsboro, TX to Linnie June (Reese) Williams and Loyd Laverne Williams. He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1968 and later went on to Hill Junior College. He embarked on the trip of a lifetime in 1969, traveling Route
66 and Hwy 1, driving along the Pacific West Coast to Seattle, up into Canada, and back home again. He was a lead singer in a band when he caught the eye of a nice Whitney girl, Janice Plunkett, who shortly became the love of his life. They married on January 17, 1970, and had three beautiful girls together. Donnie’s wife and family were his life breath.

He was an avid music lover, Beatles fan, artist, calligrapher, a man of the land. Donnie worked as a machine operator at Robintech and a carpenter with LJ Barr. Following in his father’s and grandfather’s footsteps, he was a farmer/rancher for most of his life, faithfully devoting himself to his family and his land.

He taught us to love, to appreciate the little things, to slow down and sit awhile. He taught us that music can heal, that things change. He fiercely loved his wife and family until the day he died. He loved Jesus with a sweet innocence that would make you cry. His family thanks God for every cherished moment spent with this strong, good man.

Preceding him in death were his grandparents Laverne and Dixie Cypert Williams and Y.B. and Rosa Perry Reese, his parents, and his brother Sammy Williams.

Donnie is survived by his beautiful, precious, loving wife, Janice Plunkett Williams, his sister Charlotte Barr and
her husband Jerry, his 3 daughters, Sunshine Johnson, Faith Bauder and her husband Nathan, Breeze Cantrell and her husband Chris, his 9 grandchildren, Reagan, Emily, Christopher (Sunshine), Donovan his wife Tana, Dylan, Lily (Faith), Joshua, Caitlin, Elijah
(Breeze), his 3 great-grandchildren, Gabriel, Alana, and one on the way, Ezra, his brother-in-law, Murrie Lee Plunkett, his sister-in-law, Annette Estes and her husband Kent, nieces, nephews, and many more family and friends whom he loved so much.
